I am a collector of Griswall, and Wagner castiron. The best way to clean old castiron cookware is to put a can of Red Devil LYE in a plastic garbage can and fill with water to the level needed. Put piece in and leave until clean. All you have to do when it is clean is rinse with soapy suds and season with vegetable oil in an oven at 200 for an hour.
