To train a horse to come to you, from a pasture, or large area, just carry some peppermint candies in your pockets at all times. Every once in a while, give them a piece. But, make sure you make the cellophane wrapper, noisy. Soon all will come running, for the candy. My Dad used to be able to have them come to him, even with a cigarette wrapper.
