The best part about this is that you don't have to worry if you have kids. Take a bottle of peppermint extract and a handful of cotton balls. Find the places where you know you are having mice come in your house. Wet down a few cottonballs with the peppermint extract and place them in or near the area of entry (like where your drain pipe meets your floor under your sink). Mice won't come back that way.
