Hay Jumping
When I was a boy my dad knew how to make life fun for us kids. I remember one specific time when he went out into the field to gather hay. My brother and I took turns riding the hay rake that dad pulled behind his Allis-Clamers G. After the hay was pulled into piles my dad would hitch up the wagon and pick up the hay. We would ride atop the stack back to the barn where dad would position the wagon just below the hay loft door. He would let my brother, sisters and me jump out of the loft into the wagon. We did this several times. It would help him pack down the hay better to pitch it into the loft, but it sure was a lot of fun for us. He always had a way of taking common, necessary chores and turning them into adventures. Memories like this are my richest. I regret that sometimes today we give fail to give our kids these kinds of memories.
