Before TV
We milked cows till I was 10 and when I was really little I would always go out to the barn and be with Dad when he milked. He always had a radio going and after supper when we milked I will always remember the radio programs. Our Miss Brooks, FBI(which sometimes would scare me), Fibber MaGee & Molly, Amos & Andy, Gene Autry to name a few. I can remember the LAVA soap commercials. We always listened to Edward R. Merrow give the news at suppertime. I don't know why these stick out in my mind so but they do. Lots of times I would fall asleep before the milking was finished and in the winter time when it was really cold having all the cows in the barn made it warm in there and the doors and windows would frost over. What a fun way to grow up!
