1 Bag Sauerkraut
1 or 2 medium RED apples
1/3 Cup Olive/Vegetable oil
Pinch of salt
3 or more Tablespoons of white sugar
Dashes of Black pepper (optional)
Open bag/can of sauerkraut, drain, squeeze out excess juice and place in a bowl.
DON'T peel the apples, just core and grate...same side as used for cheddar cheese grating.
Immediately, place grated apples inside the sauerkraut and mix well.<
Pour your oil, pinch of salt, several dashes of black pepper and sugar into mixture.
Toss around well....adding sugar until it tastes 'somewhat' sweet.<
You may use this dish immediately or chilled for a complimentary side dish to potatoes, meats, stews, sausage sandwich topping.
Some kids like it on their hot dogs and hamburgers.
I would use it 'sparingly' if at all for chicken, fish or turkey dishes.
But in my home, you never know.
