Ingredients: 1 bar Zote or Fels-Naptha Laundry Soap, 1 cup Arm Hammer Washing Soda, and 1/2 cup Borax Directions: Grate bar of soap into a medium saucepan. Add just enough hot water to cover. Stir constantly over low-medium heat, until melted. In a 5 gallon bucket, add washing soda and borax. When soap is melted, add to bucket. Stir until powders are dissolved. Fill bucket with as hot of tap water as you can. Stir and then cover. Let sit overnight. Do not remove lid! The next day, remove lid, stir and mix equal parts of soap concentrate and cold water. I use gallon sized jugs To use, just shake jugs well and pour 1 cup into your washing machine. This is a low sudsing formula. Cleans very well. I have also eliminated the use of fabric softeners and have opted to use 1/4 cup white vinegar for the rinse cycle. Clothes come out very clean and soft. By making my own laundry soap and using vinegar as a fabric softener, I ve gone from spending 30-35 dollars a month to just 2.00 ! It s a wonderful way to save a little money and to help the environment. Submitted By: Angela Marshall from OH on 2009-07-09 |
