2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cooking oil (I use olive)
3 Tablespoons Dark Brown sugar OR Maple syrup
1/2 cup walnut or pecan halves or pieces
Core but dont peel the apples. Slice about 1/4 inch thick. Heat a big frying pan over med heat and add the butter and oil. Add the apples and cook, stirring often, until just starting to soften, about 10 min. Dont let them brown too much. While you are doing that, toast the nuts in a dry pan over med heat or in the oven until lightly toasted. Shake the pan often, or stir if in oven so they dont burn. Add the taosted nuts to your apples with the br sugar or maple syrup. Srir well and reduce heat to low, cook till they are as soft as you like them.
This is a great way to use up all those apples in the fall. They are great as a side dish for chicken or pork. Even folks who dont like raw apples love these
