Anyone out there use stevia as a sweetner? It is
apparently much sweeter than sugar and non caloric. I
know a couple of people who swear by it. I seem to
recall in our recent past that someone was looking for
an alternative to sugar because he/she was diabetic.

I liked the stevia we used. It did have a different flavor but not a bad flavor. Could not cook with it, became bitter when cooked. It worked fine in coffee and tea. We switched to splenda because you can cook with it. Do not use equal amounts when substituting for sugar. It takes less splenda than sugar.

Bought a box about two years ago.....still have 49 of the 50 packets left. Could not get used to the funky after taste. I have heard that there is a lot of difference between brands but I don't know for sure. They don't give the stuff away and I did not want a pantry full of unusable sweeteners....Just my 2 cents

I've tried the powdered kind and I say yuck to that too. It didn't disolve well and made my coffee taste wierd.

What I use is the liquid, it is a pure stevia extract. I just use a few drops at a time.

Paula, I've used Stevia now for about 2 years. I'm glad I found it, because I "must have" sweet coffee and sweet tea. But sugar was doing me no favors! I tried splenda and a few others, but went with Stevia because it is more natural.

The trick is using the right amount... too much and it gets bitter. I'll admit that it took some getting use to, just like any artificial sweetner.

I'm real happy with it. Others can't stand it! So I guess it's an individual thing.

Kim, I never heard of it. Where would I find it?
I've tried the Splenda and haven't been too impressed yet. They claim it's a direct substitute in recipes, but I haven't found that to be so.

Hi Dave! I buy mine at the local Co-op. I use the liquid, which in my experience is best. You just at a drop or two to whatever you are sweetening.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it.
