Rumsfeld: Kennedy 'All Wet' About Bush Lies
(2004-02-05) -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told Sen. Edward M. Kennedy yesterday that he was "all wet" when the Senator alleged that the Bush administration lied about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction to justify going to war.

The verbal clash came during Mr. Rumsfeld's testimony at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing probing the state of pre-war intelligence.

Sen. Kennedy began his questioning of the Defense Secretary by saying, "Don't you think some members of the Bush administration should be held legally accountable for the lies they told about Iraqi weapons, and the subsequent cover-up?"

"First, with all due respect Senator Kennedy, you're all wet," said Mr. Rumsfeld. "The administration has not lied or covered up. However, in general, I do believe that when a man commits a crime he should face the bar of justice. He should not be allowed to serve in positions of power in our government, and be hailed as a leader, when the question of his guilt remains unresolved, if you know what I mean."

"I'm sure I do not know what you mean," Mr. Kennedy said. "But the American people deserve to know why you can't find Saddam's weapons of mass destruction."

"Sometimes things are hard to find, even when you know where they are," said Mr. Rumsfeld. "For example, I've heard of a man who missed a bridge and drove his car into the water, even though he knew where the bridge was. And then sometimes you just keep diving into a problem and despite repeated efforts, you come up empty handed. That doesn't mean that nothing's there. As you know, eventually, the truth comes to light."

Having no further questions, Mr. Kennedy yielded the remainder of his time.

I would yield the remander of my time too and hope that I never have to question that man again if I were Kennedy.

like i said before , must have to be getting desperate if you have to go back and bring 40 year old stuff up , both sides are guilty of this, they did this with bush with his services record and now stuff like this .pretty sad.

Hard to blame either party for using an old term -The phrase "weapons of mass desruction" was first used in 1937 and referred to dropping bombs from airplanes. But it's pretty clear in my memory that i thought that's why we were going to war. I've always suspected that bush was looking for an excuse to settle up and get rid of saddam to salvage his dad's honor since he lost his re-election and ol saddam made fun of him. Once that happened, it became a simple case of another ticked-off texan. History's full of them. :)

that maybe be so DC, i don,t want to get into americans policits, and we have enough snakes on our side of the border, i just have problems when somebody has to go back to something someone did years ago,i know i wasn,t an angel back then, i hope im a better person today, but why can,t they judge and take people to task for what they do today and what they will do tomorrow, living in the past never did much for me,when people bring up something that happened 40 years ago to use against somebody, then i start thinking if they can,t find anything wrong with what this person is doing now them maybe he has straightened his self out and doing something worthwhile now.and when people go and bring up someones past ,like 40 years ago i also loose respect for them because i figure they are just on a witch hunt not the kind of people i like being around.seems you need policitans like we have up here , they got more mordern dirt to try and hide ,like week old stuff .

The problem I have with your idea on that is if someone commits a cold blooded murder for no good reason, then it doesn't matter if it is one hour of a hundred years they should be held liable. There are things in everyone's past as you said, but to kick folks out of the government for the things they have and to have this swept under the rug is plain wrong. Could you imagine what cnn and other liberal media outlets would report if Bush did the same thing? He would be out of office in a week and in jail! Kennedy the maggot is still in government. He isn't even close to being the man John or Robert was, he is just riding the money and name.

of course murder isn,t something you would ever let go, i think your reading this post as it is now not as it developed, im not defending ted kennedy or condoning what he did, my part of this discussion begin when i took issue with going back 40 years and judging people by what they did then , and im not saying what kennedy did was ok , nor do i like them going after bush for his service record, and again what you refer to as the severity of something enters into the picture as well, but for the most part i like to see what people are like today especially if they are going to be doing something like working for me , running a country etc.say somebody did drugs in the 60,s smoked pot for example , now he has a family putting his kids through school because he working his rear off out in the back yard garage fixing somebody,s machinery should he be ripped apart say if he wanted to run for town council because somebody remembered him smoking pot 40 years ago, i would have a better view of him and would trust him more than the person that stooped to the level he did to bring it up.its late im tired and wasted enough time on this, im going to bed, hope i cleared up my position, im not for or against anybody and like to hopefully be able to see the good in people instead always looking for the bad, god knows theres enough of that around.

"Bull Pucky!" to you!
Way to go Rummy!!!
You liberal apologists have got to accept the fact that turnabout is fair play!!

im not a liberial h!!, im not even an american ,but don,t they go on what people do now instead of years ago, i said the same thing when all this crap was going on about bush s service record , what he did back then doesn,t mean he,s unfit to be president of the US today does it. i belive we have all made mistakes in our past some more serious than others and probably would try and not repeat them again if we could do it all over again, to me life is a learning experience, i hope im alot smarter today than i was 25 or 30 years ago. i think when they do stuff like that it just lessens their standing in peoples eyes , mine anyways, oh and im sure not a big fan of kennedy either.

So how far in the past is permissable. Thirty minutes? One year? How about the endless whining about slavery which ended with the War of Northern Aggression. People always say "that's in the past" if their ox is being gored. Isn't everything in the past?

toolman    Posted 02-24-2004 at 15:13:55       [Reply]  [No Email]
thats just it everybody has a past im sure if you dig not many would be able to pass now would they , course that might not apply to you but i know i havent always been this virtueous

america or canada a politician is still a politician. kennedy is a democrat in what is supposed to be a republic. that should explain everything.
