Printing color

I have a hp 700 printer with a black cartridge and a color cartridge . Every time I went to print color one of the colors would be dried up because I don't print that often .
So this last time I took out the new cartridge and put scotch tape over the holes and put my old one back in
to fill up the hole,
It's been a month now since I printed color so I took the tape off the new one and put it in and it printed just as if I had just bought it .
Thought I might post this info in case any body else has that trouble or if any one has a better solution to this problem . The one I use to fill the hole I think I printed with it twice before it screwed up .
Al

You can just wipe off the holes with rubbing alcohol. Workes for me.
