Whispering Pines    Posted 01-18-2002 at 10:48:02       [Reply]  [No Email]
Had this silly ol' gal who decided she needed to calve last night. About 9:00 o'clock it became obvious I was going no need to play midwife since the little fella was backwards to the world. At 8 degrees above with one of my legs hooked thru the OB chain and the other foot shoved against her back side and with the help of a heap of sweat and grunt we showed the little guy this big wonderful world. A quick washup (for me)in the stock tank at 32.5 degrees and a hand only sightly froze to the barn door latch (tounge and pump handle sort of thing) finished the event. Now have a lively, happy little black bull running around. Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together! Only regret, missed 3/4 of C.S.I. now'll just hafta wait for the rerun.

Good going Pines. I had to pull a backwards calf once, but mine was already dead for several days when discovered. Terrible job. Only those who have done it can appreciate raising cattle.
By the way, was do you raise Angus? Just guessing from the black bull.
Good luck

I raise reg. nubian goats, and kidding season starts in about 3 weeks here, and I love to watch the little ones try to stand try to figure who mom is, what I am, and to introduce them to their guardian My Great Pyrenees, and watch them play king of the mountain on this gentle giant of a dog,and he just lays there, and lets me know all is well these are my kids. Love it, I truely do.

Glad everything came out all right!

I can fill you in on the episode of CSI if you want, but it wouldn't be good as watching it. I like that show.
