I'm curious to know what Country Lifers think.

Should Martha Steward go to jail and for how long.

I dont want to set a trend, so I'll reserve my vote for last........gfp

Bill Clinton is still running loose...........I say hang him before you hang her....she's done nothing to the American people compared to that embarrassing idiot!! Hang 'em from the nearest tree, it would be no different than me robbing someone....and they'd throw the book at me!

She should do time. She screwed her gardener out of some overtime pay and he lost when he took her to court. She is not a nice person.

I think her sentencing should depend on the amount of remorse she's demonstrated for all the small investors she ripped off by her greed. I remember the savings & loan scandal, enron and seems every few years some bigtime thief finds a new excuse for stealing working peoples' retirement money. Then once she's apologized, then send a clear signal by hanging her! BTW can i still buy a ticket to wet her grave? I have zero tolerance for people who don't care about others. :)

Yes if she's found guilty...and for sentencing I say treat her just like anybody special treatment...

Remember, the insider trading charges were dropped. She was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements.

I say roll her in fresh parsley, add a touch of white wine, and let her fry..

I don't know the law. But, if she was found guilty, and it had a jail term, she should go to jail. If it were me, I would have to go. She might get Michael Jackson for a roomie.

This is a tough one. On one hand I'd like to see her brought down a peg or two, she gives off this snippity vibe that grates on my one good nerve, but by the same token, people have gotten rich for years doing what she (allegedly) did and while it's not right, I think she's a classic example of someone who was in over her head and probably following the advice of someone who will forever remain namelss and guiltless. I have nothing to substantiate that feeling, it's just a hunch. Sometimes having money to play with can be a curse.

I haven't seen it all.
I've an idea she was an easy political mark. That's all.
About lieing. Where is it in the constitution one has to incriminate ones-self over alligations. Without knowing more I'd give her the benifit of doubt.

seems to me that a big fine should do after all if you only have room for so many criminals who would you feel safer with on the street her or some armed robber. i think the fine should be huge so it hurts her designer purse but a cell i just don't see it.

I see this Martha Steward thing as a Mistake all around. She was greedy, but so what. She received an inside tip, so what. The government went after her, so what.

Well, here's what. People who held shares in her company have lost millions of dollars. And, if all she gets are fines, (Which she can afford,) and a slap on the wrist, then the real losers are the mom and pop shareholder. If that happens, it would have been better if the govm't had kept hands off. Another thing, if she was singled out to take the heat for other unscrupelous traders, then that is wrong.

I don't particularly like her but people act on tips all the time. Everytime an economist speaks, someone takes it to heart and acts accordingly..........gfp

"~~convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements"

I keep hearing her main crime was lying to the federal investigators under oath.

Wasn't that what Bill Clinton did? I dont see him doing any time, just collecting his big presidential retirement check we pay for the rest of his life!!
Sometimes things are just hard to explain or understand.

as was said in another post, we have a legal system and not a justice system. But if we call in that, we call it a criminal justice system. Does that mean justice for the criminals? Obviously, for Clinton is still running loose and making a fortune off of we the people. I for one am ashamed that we had him for a president. That is one thing that makes W look so good. I don't agree with everything he does, but he is a moral man!!! Enough said
