A Sliced Thumb and a Blister Later...

the run has been rewired. I sliced open my thumb on the wire, bled forever, and I have a huge blister on my third finger from pulling a million staples out with needlenose pliers. I am happy now though. My chickies are safe, and there will be no more intrusions from the squirrels or anything else. I even overextended the wire at the bottom and put it into the ground! Looks good, nice and strong. Shoulda done that to begin with. I rolled up all that flimsy stuff, gonna go get my money back for it tomorrow.

Its going to be cold and windy tonight, supposed to get down to freezing and with the winds, its gonna suck. I closed their shutters and cracked their front door open, lowered the heat lamp, and they are all snuggled in, sleeping like babies. :)

Funny critters, they would go free range, then come back every now and then to say hello. Sunshine decided to stay a while, so I took a break with her. She sat on my leg for a while, then snuggled up close to me, I put my arm around her, and she laid her little neck over the top of my arm and went right to sleep. I tried to get her to get down after a little bit, so I could go back to work, but she wasn't having any of it. She had decided to be my buddy. Maybe she loved the ride in the truck to pick up Shelby from school that day, and she is especially attached. :) They really are sweet.

For ret, I know I should feed the squirrels, and I used to feed everything, but you see, we have SO MANY! I mean, I can have 15 squirrels in my back yard at one time in the summer if I put out food! They are not happy to just eat what I give them in Plastic planter dishes, they have to destroy my bird feeders. I got metal feeders this year!

The main reason I don't feed the wildlife anymore is because it attracts RATS!!! OH yeah, they will come, and take over the chipmunk holes, kill the chipmunks and come out DURING THE DAY! They are BOLD! So, I keep 2 little bird feeders out away from the house, and only put enough for half a day in there. Have to, can't have any left over because it attracts the unwanteds.

I was steamed this morning when I went out at light and they had already made one of the holes bigger! Had three chickens running around loose. Had to chase them down and put something in from of the hole til I could get back with the chicken wire and the staples.

All is right with the world now though, I can rest easy. :)

You know with the shuttered windows you could make an environmentally-friendly air-conditioner for them too. All you need is enough nice stiff wire to reach from the shutter latch to yer bedside, and anytime you wake up in a sweat this summer, ya plunks yer feet on the floor and repeatedly push-pull that wire and they might stir on the roost, but knowing they're safe they'll doze right off to the soothing whackety whack of the shutters! LOL
Better yet, use a plastic tube and you can lullaby them thru it! "Chine on - chine on harbayst moooon! Abeana Skyyyyyy!" Bwahahahaha!
