My FIL's girlfriends son was over in Iraq, came back 8 months ago. I asked him if he had to sleep in ditches, like the pictures y'all had posted on here. He said yep, and every third day, they would move and dig another. WHile they were in the ditch, he said they would take some time and make "cup holders" out of the dirt, and foot rests, etc. Told me he saw two of ours die while he was there. He says all the men from there think women are for babies and pleasure, and thats it. We knew that was the way they thought though. He said it was freezing at night and 130 degrees at the height of the day. I wished I had had more time to hear some stories from him. He is only early 20's. I called Shelby over and explained to her that he was over in Iraq and he fought for our country, to shake his hand and thank him, and she shyly did, and he was flattered. This is the first guy I have met that was actually over there, and I saw him as a hero. :) I was honored to be sitting at the same table eating supper with him.

our national guard unit is at Fort Hood Tx, going to Iraq from there within 30 days.
It is good that you had your little girl meet that young soldier. I remember how it was 30+ years ago, but that was the past I hope. I hope you told him how proud we all are of him. Thanks for posting it.
PS when that little girl gets older don't be introducing her to no soldiers:^)

My daughter is a sailor and she is so nice. I worry cause she is so impressed my Marines. She hopes to become and officer this Fall. Our local state Rep. Dan Ellis wrote a very nice support letter for her file that may help her get into the program. She worked hard to help him get elected and he was glad to send the letter to her commander. It sure looked official. May God bless our kids that have followed in our foot steps and are trying their best to wear bigger combat boots than we did.

if some other nice young woman, and there are others, that didn't contribute to the Dan Ellis campaign would also get a letter of recomendation from him? And, you said gladly. Just a thought
