Last year I read that morning doves mate for life. After I read that, I say a morning dove out on the power line. Everyday, until fall it was there all by itself. Winter came and went, I went out this morning to get the paper there he was, sitting on the wire. But not alone. My lonely dove found a mate!!!It's amazing how just the littlest things can make a differance. I'm an avid hunter, but that just made my day!!! Have a good day America!

There are a number of animals that mate for life, life being until one dies, then the other usually will take a new mate. Doves do. I learned as a boy to call them, cupping my hands and duplicating their sound. My mother used to be amazed that I could sit on our porch, make that sound, and in minutes have a pair of them sitting in the tree near by calling back to me.
I hunted them once, and found that the difficulty was way over rated. I hit two with my first shot. Never did it again. Too much work, not enough meat.

I'm like you Bob, I've never been able to distinguish one Dove from another. But, my wife can. She swears that the Red Bird that comes around here is the same one, year after year..........gfp
