How to earn my respect

I am off on Wednesdays and was sitting at the eatin table yesterday morning and enjoying coffee and the morning paper. The first thing that I noticed was the story about the 9-11 commission. They said that Presidents Bush and Clinton both had flubbed up their job and "allowed" the attacks on Sept. 11. Also they both had done really bad in capturing Bin Laden. So I looked up at my missus, shes also off on Wednesdays, and said. Well Bin Laden is in trouble. These guys will probably go over and capture him as soon as their meetings are over. That is what it would take for them to gain my respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is easy to sit around and critize others. Get off your duffs and go capture him yourselves.

I find the similarities between the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and those of Dec. 7, 1941 to be quite remarkable. Both were unexpected, yet when an after the fact analysis was done the second-guessers and "I told you so'ers" are able to predict both attacks unequivocally, after the fact of course, but they don't want you to notice that.
Both had clues ahead of time that were mis-read or not understood, both times the intelligence community was blamed for not having a crystal ball. Both times the President was warned that "something" might happen, but neither had specific information on which they could have acted.
Roosevelt was warned that the Japanese might attack, but the "experts" expected the attack to be in the Phillipines or Southeast Asia early in 1942, not Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
Bush was warned that Al-Qaida was a threat, the CIA had warnings that air liners might be used, but nobody, and I mean nobody knew that terrorists were going to fly jets into the World Trade Center & the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and they still don't know for sure where the last one was headed when it crashed in PA.
This is not a search for facts, it's a search for political scapegoats in an election year.
Ask Admiral Kimmel and General Short about it, they were the ones who got the short end of these things from Pearl Harbor.

The thing that bothered me about that testimony is that the presidents had been given a warning that "something" is going to happen. That's pretty vague, I think, and this is a huge country. A couple of days ago, I went to the Social Security building at Dyersburg. They have an armed guard on the front desk.

Steve, I know what you mean. When the attacks on 9-11 occurred, I was shocked but not surprised. For, when the Cole Incident occurred, we all knew, that it could and probably would happen here. We didn't know what, but we knew eventually, it would. I always thought it would be the Statue of Liberty. And/or, something to do with the water supply in some place like the nation's Capitol. But, I admit, I never thought it would be by planes. Does that mean I had my head in the sand?............gfp
