Spruce gum harvest

Well, me and Zorba the yak are back from our annual spruce gum harvesting expedition. Since the Krummholtz logging business went south on me some years ago, I decided to try to make a living doing something I really enjoyed as a youngster.
I remember back in '62 when me and Killer Kimball spent all winter back up in the Great Gulf looking for spruce gum. When spring breakup came, both of us had enough money to buy a team of yaks. (Some people call them gnus but I always called the yaks.) We never seemed to do as good as that winter, though. And we sure didn't have as much fun without each other for company.
Not that yaks aren't good company, mind you. Zorba is a laugh a minute in the hovel at night but he can't hold a candle to Abe and Babe, that first team of yaks I bought (may they rest in peace). Those two would keep you in stitches all winter long. I almost felt guilty making money and being able to laugh so much. It just didn't seem right.
Well, I see somebody mentioned that the rhubarb was up. I guess me and Zorba will just lay up for a month or so and then follow the harvest back north again.
