I planted some 81 leylands about a month ago. I watered them twice a week for about 3 weeks. Then I noticed about seven or so turning black. It was almost like they had been burned. What causes this? How do I keep them healthy? Thanks

My dad planted a row of those, and several, almost all as a matter of fact died. A friend of his told him you have to plant them a certain way. I am going to see my dad this morning, I will ask him what he did differently the second time around, his are thriving and huge now.

I am not sure why they were turning black. Maybe to much water. They thrive is soil that drains well. Here is a good site with lots of information. In the menu box on the left click on Leyland Cypress.

Good Luck!
