Weak, off balance chick

Bought the new chicks a week ago, the speckled sussex. Got five. All were okay when I got them. I have one that isn't advancing like the other four. She still eats and drinks, so that is a good sign...BUT...she can't stand for very long, and if she loses her balance, and ends up on her side or her back, she can't right herself, so I have to keep an eye on her and right her often. She isn't as big as the others, growing slowly, her first feathers still have the shafts on them except for the very ends on the wings. All I can do is keep an eye on her and hope she gets better and cathces up to the others. They aren't picking on her, so I let her stay in the brooder with the others, she seems to want that over the solitude in the basket with food and water. I was holding her, and about every thirty minutes she would want some food and water, so I would let her down into the basket and she would ea and drink, then she wanted me to hold her again. She wasn't really happy unless she was with her sisters though, so she is in there with them.

Anybody ever had this happen to a chick of theirs? Do you think it may be a vitamin deficiency? I do have liquid vitamin supplement for my finches and cockateil, maybe I will put some in the water, think that would be a good idea?

Thanks for listening and the advice y'all can give me. :)

I can't really help you with the chick, but I know some folks that can...or at least try. I frequent a forum called backyard chickens...the address is

post a question there, and I'm sure you will get a response. there are quite a few members that are considered "masters" if you know what I mean...:o) I hope that helps.

Now, Far be it for me to make humor at a time like this. Because, I know how much you prize your little feathered friends. But if you find a cure for what ails your chick, pass it on to me. Lately, I've been feeling a little weak and, as anyone who knows me will attest, I've always been off-balance. Good luck Kelly.......gfp

Ditto fer me as Alias as posted!! Hope the chick makes it Kelly....the only chickens I'm expert on comes outta a frying pan or cardboard bucket.

It's going to take a bigger cure than you'll be able to thread here to help all us old coots, specially those ahead of me. They's all been following the wrong example, whoever he might have been.
I'd even name the culprit if i could, But I know nothing, and it is no never mind to me. So I'll just keep quiet about this whole shameful episode. Far be it from me to start any rumors.
The serious one?

Kelly, I don' t have any help for you and your chick.
However, I do participate in a poultry forum that is
usually a font of information. I read the water fowl
discussions but there is also a poultry discussion.

Hope it helps.

Well then...Glad to hear it. I was gonna tell you to if you didn't to help with the chick. other than that, I don't know...Funny story though... Went out to check and feed mine this morning and the ducks pen is next to the chicks and I couldn't find on of the ducks, looked over in to the chicks pen, there she is runnign around with the chickens, don't ask me how she got there but it was funny and cute. hope your little chick feels better, let me know what you find out.
