I hear a lot of complaining about Alaska oil going to japan. Its true it does, I was living in Alaska when the debate to ship Alaska Oil to Japan occured. I wrote a lot of nasty letters trying to make this happen. What happen was, Japan was buying oil from the middle east and shipping it to Japan, a purty long haul. Alaska was shipping oil to the east coast, also a long haul. So what happen, after fighting all the politics, smarter heads prevailed. Japan trades their middle east oil for Alaska oil. The amount of Alaska oil we ship to Japan they ship (from the middle east) to the east coast of the US. The effect of this is both the US and Japan save huge sumes of money on shipping, which helps keep the price down.

We need to check the whole story before we cut off our noses to spite are faces.
