...his feelings. Yesterday Fred was giving me he11 for giving away my column. I tried to explain to him about exposure and how you have to be published to get published and eventually get paid.

"Why would they buy the cow if you're giving them the milk for free?" He demanded.

"Fred, you don't understand."

"I understand that you're giving away your work."

"But I'm giving them old stuff...from last year. Nobody will take me seriously if I don't have publishing credits, even if I didn't get paid. If I ever hope to get paid I have to be able to show that I was published regularly. It's like a bank. You have to have money to borrow money. They have to think you don't need them, to succeed."

"You should be charging them." He said finally, and I lost my temper and my patience.

"Look, when you start writing you can do it any way you want, but for now, you don't know what you're talking about, so just let me be. You're not a writer so you don't understand."

Now this is what I'm getting out of him.

"Fred..where's the butter?"

"How do I know, I'm not a WRITER."

"Did the girls close the gate?"

"I wouldn't know, since I'm not a WRITER."

"Do we have the money to pay the electric bill this week?"

"Well if I was a WRITER, I might know..."

Lord help him, he has no idea how close to death he is. (grin)

I gave away some designs. Now, I get business because persons do not want to do it themselves (DIY).

That 'cow & free milk' is from something else the young boys used to talk about.

-"You're not a writer so you don't understand."-

ay Cindi, I agree with you a hundred per cent, you did hurt his feelings..:-)

Now? his life's in danger also...LOL

But you're right, again:-), you gotta do some pr, and for this YOU have to give something away, out of your own pocket. We're possitive you'll get it all back.

Well! Dang-it-all!    Posted 04-10-2004 at 08:17:45       [Reply]  [No Email]
I don't tell that man how to roof. He's put on a million roofs, but writes less than five words a day on a GOOD day. He could be a great writer if he took the time to write down his philosophies, he11 he might even make a good president, but if I listened to him I would still be stuck writing recipes.

Thanks Patria (smile)

He might be, all I know is that you can't sell something unless somebody else says it's worth the price first.

We (men) have fragile egos, and he is already 'upset' that you may be getting taken advantage of, and then you go and prove to him that he is not needed to 'protect his herd'...

I hate it when the bulls get mopey...It's just not 'handsome'...

Salmoneye, Who Is Not Needed By The Two 'Women' He Lives With Either...*sigh*...*sniff*...

Awww...!    Posted 04-10-2004 at 05:41:57       [Reply]  [No Email]
Now ya dun went and made me feel badly. I do love 'im, I do, and I do need him. He is my primary source of inspiration, next to Jake. But I'm not being taken advanatge of. These folks may be benefitting from my columns but I am benefitting from them publishing them even for free. I just can't make him understand that, somehow.

I agree with DD...

We (men) do get upset and hurt...We get over it though...

And we really do like women that are independant and can hold the fort when we are not around...

He'll come around...

And so will I...

Someday LOL...

REALLY??? I find that most fellers are highly intimidated by an Independent Woman : ) I try to look at it like this: If I was a feller and had to be out of work for awhile I'd like to know that my mate could handle it for awhile. NOT just fall completely apart if I was the only breadwinner in the household. But then again I'm just like that, I always TRY to see things from both sides : )
