...if a dog is pregnant early on? Any signs to look for? I think Sugar may have little puppy buns in the oven and I want to know for sure because if she is, she's coming out of the sow pasture. She might get stepped on or something.

Hey Cindi,
Yes those are signs you can look for.
If she was in heat, and males were around then you have a GREAT chance, but also, there are some dogs that do have false pregnancies.
They show all the signs of a true pregnant dog, but no pups.
Nipples enlarge, bag fills out, she hides in wholes, etc. Anything and everything a true pregnant dog does.
Good Luck,
Happy Easter!

Forgive me Cindi but I can't resist this golden opportunity. Does she appear to have "Morning Sickness"? Or, does she like pickles and strawberry ice cream? Does her bark come out sounding like "Ahm Blooooooooted?......gfp

None of the above, however she does tend to lay on her back a lot, legs spraddled, baking her belly in the sun. Even her fleas seem somewhat mellow.

some times you can tell by looking at their nipples.

I work at an animal hospital & the vet can usually tell at 4 to 5 weeks by feelin her abdomen.

the best way to tell is if she came in heat, was running loose, if there was a male dog within 2 miles of her then you can guess that she is

Well, when she lays on her back, her belly is flat, but taught. Kind of rigid if you press on it, and her nipples are puffy and about twice the size they were. I had a feeling those were good signs..
