I was out putting fresh water in the bird bath and watering my climbing roses and spraying water into the neighbor dog's water bowl which looked yucky.

I always pick catapillars (sp?) off the roses and stomp them with my shoe when out there. While I was picking the 'worms' off, I noticed something wound around the trellis. Upon further scrutiny I realized it was a snake, watching me. It was a bout 4 1/2 feet long and had a black and tan pattern on it. I tried to get a closer look at his head to see it's shape. I read somewhere that venemous snakes have a triangular shape head.

I moved some rose branches over but still could not get a good look. I did discover though that some little bird and built a little nest right there. I determined that snake was just a chicken/rat snake having a breakfast of eggs. I told him he would start eating catapillars instead, he was welcome to invite his/her whole family. It did not reply. I was sort of glad, too. Last I heard of a snake talking to a woman it caused a whole lot of trouble!! ;-)

I have a black snake that's lived under my trailer for about 7 years. She's had babies under there (3 that I've seen so far ) and sometimes she comes out and lays in the sun on the concrete slab. We have an understanding, I don't mess with her and she don't hide to scare me. She lays right out in the open ; ) I like it that way. While everyone else in the park has mice problems except me, I'm just enjoying her company and making her feel welcome to stay.
