Valve lash on Briggs
[Return to Topics]

Anyone know the valve lash clearences on a Briggs 5 horse? I think it's .010 intake/ .015 exhaust but not certain. Been many moons.
Thanks!

I've got an old service manual that I use...lists clearances by aluminum vs cast iron cylinder and engine model-series number.

Ranges runs from .007-.009 max clearance, .005-.007 min clearance for intake valves; .011-.019 max and .009-.017 min for exhaust. I don't know what models are what by the numbers, with the exception of some of the cast iron ones might correspond to HP, but might not.

If you've got a model number and type of cylinder, and it is in my book I'll tell you what the actual measures are supposed to be.

Hello Tom A.,
The Model is 130202
type-3053-01
code-87090207
Thank you very much for this! I have searched high and low for these clearences. I ground the valves on this little engine tonight at 45 degrees ex. and 30 degrees int. will do the seats tomorrow at 44 and 29 degrees. I am lucky to have access to this equipment...just no book.
Thanks again!

Sned:

according to the B&S book, the 130000-series engine should have the following valve clearances:

Intake: .005 - .007 (inches)
Exhaust: .009 - .011 (inches)

Glad to help!
Tom

I sure would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the intake and exhaust valve lash should be on my 16 1/2 hp OHV engine. It is not in my book and I can't find it on the internet anywhere. I have my engine back together and and ready to set the valves before I start it. many thanks to anyone who can help me. It is an industrial engine on a Craftsman 42 inch cut riding mower. Thank you, Oliver Worley
