morning y'all.....the gooslings seemed to have made it thru the nite....now i have another problem....last nite we moved our lil mallard ducks from the swimming pool to our pond...they seemed to be happy in this new world...pleanty to eat...lots of places to hide and builda nest someday.....but i open my eyes this morning and hear a peep peep peep....so i think ok dale anne get ya that first cup of coffee ya having empty nest syndrome....pour my coffee....more peep peep peep.....so i goin the living room and see what is on the t v...hmmmm just the news....better check this out...low and behold in my swimming pool are my ducks!...they had to walk uphill pass 4 dogs 2 cats and numerous wild critters that would have loved to eat my dear lil rubber duckie and quackers...tell me y'all...how do i get them to stay in the pond...we only put them in the pool cause they were young and we wantedto watch over them a bit before letting them out in the cruel world....they have been pool swimming fer bout 2 weeks and we intend on filling the pool in this year so them staying in it isnt an option at all and iffinthey think that my hot tub that we arereplacing the pool with is gonna be apersonal fer them.....well i will be inviting y'all over fer some good oleduck soup. anyone know what i can do to encourage them to stayon the pond?

Dale Anne, maybe you can give me some advise on mallards. I am getting six females on the 20th of May. Now that I know that I CANNOT feed them chick starter can you tell me what I SHOULD do? Sorry about the bad info that I passed on, will seek good advise here and not the feed store.

howdy jul....yes found out that you can feed them chicken laying pellets with water mixed in it so that the lil pellets expand and get soft....they love it!...also throw in some grass clippings they seem to like that also...and learn from me....dont put the ducklings in yer pool! lol....they also need a container of water kept with them that is large enough fer them to sit in and be able to dunk thems heads or they will get thems beaks dirty and stuffed with food causing them to sufficate....i have been catchinglil bugs also and placing them in front of them....well good luck.....see how fast yer learn things when ya need to lol....from one new duck owner to another......dale anne

They 'imprinted' on the pool...If you are going to fill it in anyway, just keep taking them to the pond, and let them find their way back (or not) as they see fit...Once the pool is filled in, they will have no more need to come up to the house...

You might have to repeat this process several
times in order for the pond to make a good impression on them. Hopefully the older they
get they will realize that all the good bugs and
minnows are in the pond. Are there any adult
ducks in the pond? like any young, they learn
from watching. Thanks for the morning grin, I
can almost see your little ducks from here.
