Here is a good one that explains the difference between the 'locals' and the 'Imports' namely the Asian Lady Beetle (Bug) that is the one that swarms inside...
All memebers of this family eat aphids...

Francis, here's a link to one site on them.

If you're refering to the little orange collared ones, they aren't lady bugs. I can't remember what they are called, but they hatch out every fall and are a bother as they swarm on anything and everything trying to get shelter. I also don't believe these ones eat aphids either.

As much as I like them, they are a nuisance. Vacuum them up.

We had a swarm of them a few years back, they got inside the house, in the ceiling fans, in my hair, in the furniture, every time we went outside
and came back in we brought several in that had landed on us, they came though that one year and have'nt been back, I have never seen anything like it, they were in every nook and cranny inside and outside, I know what you are going through, It is a bother, but they are the good guys, Your garden should be pretty this year, hehehe,
Donna

we have plenty too.
they don't bother me unless ya squish em - they have a distinct odor.
and they do like to pile in in the lamp shade that is like a big funnel shape.

They bring good luck if inside your house. I say leave um there.

Lady Bugs are one of the best aphid controls going.
Big business in selling live lady bugs to people with greenhouses.
They swarm into my house in the fall by the thousands and I let them.
They all leave after the last chance of frost in the spring and The Girl loikes to see the occasional one or ten throughout the winter.

Never bothered me yet...

At certain times of year my farmhouse has ladybugs all over (inside), and the same with my Dad's house with regard to box elder bugs. Both are harmless and require no removal; be patient, and whatever natural cycle brought them there will eventually move them out again.
