She's been Cancer free for 7 years and now her bone scans and MRI came back and showed she has "something suspicious" in the Lymph Nodes under her left arm : ( It was her left breast that she lost to Cancer 7 years ago so this is scary. Please keep her in your Prayers ya'll : ) THANKS!

Many prayers sent your moms way. I sure hope everything turns out okay. Cancer is so scary. Please don't let her have cancer.

Prayer is GOOD, BUT....    Posted 04-24-2004 at 19:30:26       [Reply]  [Send Email]

You also need to "take charge" of your mother's treatment by learning as much as you can about cancer. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June of 2002. I quickly found out that the Doctor's are often years behind in the development of treatments. And I am not surprised, because they don not have the time since they are busy with an active practice that must be kept running.

First I would strongly suggest that you get a copy (can buy at Amazon.com if you need to) of the book, Dr. Folkman's War - cover image shown. Second, print out the following article and read it.
http://www.moffitt.usf.edu/pubs/ccj/v6n5/article2.htm
It should give you a good overview of the many advances in cancer treatment, some such as thalidimide may be appropiate for your mother.

Then you can search the following for journal article abstracts that may give you clues as to possible treatments to look into. I have put a link to PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, below.

There is some evidence that weigh loss can slow/stop cancer growth AND going on a 1500 calorie dayly diet also helps. I myself lost about 10 pounds, not much, but since I only weigh 137# that is about 10% of my starting weight. I follow the diet by the Drs Eades which has also cut my triglicerides by one quarter - now at 50! Here is their web site; http://www.eatprotein.com/
Be sure to get the newer book Protein Power Lifeplan not the one I see in book stores that is older called Protein Power. They updated the new book with the new research done after the first book was written.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/cancer/
This site is a PBS site on Dr. Folkman. If you have the time you can download and view the TV special they made on him. It is in several segments so you can view one at a time and not tie up you computer link for the VERY long time it would take for the whole program be download. EXCELLENT show!!! They make it easy to understand his breakthru in cancer treatment. The colon treatment just announced is a direct result of his research.

Will stop now - this is probably an overload for you to digest - and I could add more. I will post my email (don't like to - get enough spam from the tractor board posting) if you'd like to get in touch that way for more info.

Regards,
Larry 8N75381

Larry, I know you meant that primarily for DD's Mom but I just wanted to say that I appreciate the info also. We post a lot of good info here sometimes but also a lot of BS. And I'm one that usually is involved in a big part of the BS. Posts like yours are helpful to all of us, thanks.

Ditto what Ron said Larry, Thanks, I'll check it out : ) To me, there is NO SUCH THING as having too much information on something like this. Thanks again : )

Dale Anne, I'll welcome ANY and ALL Prayers for my Mom : ) Just because I'm a Baptist doesn't mean I won't accept a Prayer from a Catholic. Thanks!

Newgen    Posted 04-24-2004 at 18:24:13       [Reply]  [No Email]
You got it-another Catholic prayer--all I ask is for a Baptist prayer from you if I ever need one!
By the way, how are you doing?

DD    Posted 04-24-2004 at 18:45:13       [Reply]  [No Email]

I surely will, DD.
Keep us posted on her tests.
Just dont give up, and encourage her to be positive, too.
Positive in her attitude and negative in the test results.
God bless you both.
