Armadillo Problem
[Return to Topics]

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of armadillos. They have a den under my slab and they just keep digging out more and more. I was shooting them at night but that takes to much time waiting for them. I dont have enough water to fill the den full of water. I have tried smoke bombs, coyote urine, and some kind of canola oil that was supposed to repel them. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Attach hose to tailpipe of pickup. Put the other end of hose in the hole. Crank pickup. Guranteed results.

Don't know how air tight their den is but you might try lighting a road flare and dropping that into the hole then covering the hole with a board and seal with dirt. I've had good luck killing woodchucks this way.

Don't mean to give you any ideas but those shells would sure make distinctive outhouse roofing, wouldn't they? :)

We don't have them here on the east coast. But if you can get Lenore's attention, she might know. She made mention that she had some in her rose garden keeping company with a snake....gfp

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Alias.
Unfortunately I have not won my fight with them either. My trouble is they are digging up my whole yard hunting for grubs. So I recently put out Scotts GrubX. I do not know how it will work.

I have no idea where their den is.

try live trapping them. set the trap in the direct path of where they have to go in. maybe put some sort of wire "wings" on each side of the trap door to guide them in. bait the trap with grubs, earthworms and various insects.

Thanks for all the ideas. I really am not sure what to do. The main problem is that I dont live at this house. It is a hunting and fishing cabin back in the woods. Thats why it is so difficult to make time to shoot them or trap them. I have to do something though cause the ground support under the slab will soon be gone. Its amazing how they just keep digging and digging. Its never big enough for them.
