Pregnant heifer showing signs of heat??
[Return to Topics]

We have a 17 month old Jersey
heifer about 4-5 months along in what we *suspect* is a pregnancy.
She has been exhibiting signs of heat for the past several months
(behavior wise, not discharge etc.) too but we thought it might be
one of our other cows in heat that she was reacting to. Anyway, she
is beginning to form a small udder since about 4 weeks ago (and our
other heifers have done this at about 4-5 months along). This heifer has shown signs of heat for the past 3 months and yesterday
she did have a bloody show and was acting as though she were in heat
2 days prior to that. Can she indeed be bred? Anyone else have any experience with this? I've never seen this
before.
Thanks,
Linda in northern AZ

Yep, have her Preg. Checked. Her fuller bag may be maturity.

You can have a veterinary pregnancy check her. Is she showing signs of heat every 3 weeks for a couple of days? If so, I'd say she isn't bred.
