Well, we made it home from the wedding we went to, and being as we were kinda pushed for time, and supper was not in my reach to fix, I grabbed up some Captain D's coupons and took orders.

Then, I jumped in my truck, cranked up some good country tunes, and headed down the road. I got to Captain D's and saw the drive through was a little crowded, so I decided to go on in and order. I haven't been to Captain D's in a long time anyway, so I could go in and take my time. I ordered, got our supper, and headed out the door.

I hopped in the truck, and checked the dinners just to make sure I got what I ordered before I left the parking lot.

Now, before I tell you what happened, I have to make y'all understand why I did what I did. For some reason, there is only one Captain D's anywhere around my house, so I have to go to that one. It is on a 4 lane highway, with a lot of old run down apartments. There are a lot of undesirables in that area. Drug activity, just kinda scummy area in general. So, you tend to kinda watch yourself when you are coming and going to the truck. Now, mind you this, I am NOT afraid of black people, BUT..this area is known for what happened to me.

So...getting back to the story...I was rustling around in the bags, and out of habit, I always lock the doors when I get in. About the time I did that, some black guy, skinny, looking kinda strung out, with one of those doo rags on his head, looked like it used to be an old black tee shirt. He has a huge folded up umbrella, and he taps on my window, and motions for me to roll my window down while he says "scewz me pleeeze".

Now, here I am, dressed like a fine lady for a change, because I still had my wedding attire on, looking vulnerable all by myself, and feeling a little pissed off about it. I am not looking or feeling my usual tough lady redneck self, I am totally out of character, and all I have to show my character is my big red dodge truck, which obviously isn't scaring this guy too much. Too bad for him, cause he picked the worng lady to try and mess with.

I don't know what he wanted, I don't care what he wanted. All I knew was, I didn't have nothing I wanted to give him, and I wasn't gonna roll no dang window down even half and inch to hear his sob story and ask me for a dollar. In this day and age it is just too dangerous to do any such thing, especially since I was by myself.

I looked up at him, and looked at him like he had lost his stupid mind, and shook my head NO, and he stood there, so I proceeded to shake my head some more and mouthed F**K YOU!!

Well...that got him moving on...on to the next parking lot, Sonny's BBQ, where I sw him approach another lady in a vehicle, she just waved him off and took off, nearly running over his foot in the process.

I know deep down, if Ian had been with me, he would have NEVER targeted me, and I can tell you something else, if I had been in my usual aggresive defiant mode, he would have felt the heat coming off this redneck girl and never approached me, I know that much.

I just can't be taking chances these days, have to be careful. Ya know what I mean?

With traveling season coming up and all the poverty around, it's a good time to mention that roadside rest areas are getting hazardous. Good idea to lock the rig and foot-travel with an armed companion. Hungry people can be predators.

You're definitely no fool, Kelly.

Some folks forget that a 3,000# vehicle is a formidible weapon.

However, I highly recommend carrying a pistol. I carry and have had occasion to be happy I did. The peace of mind, for me, is invaluable.

I hear you Kelly, loud and clear.
Imagine an island 100x35 miles, and nowhere to run to. I live on the mountains, away from the big city but drug related crimes are everywhere around here.

Kelly I have a friend that drives a truck over the road and shes had several run ins with folks like that. Outside of Birmingham they stopped at a truck stop while her husband was still asleep. She pulled in and got fuel but the lot was full so they parked in an extension acoss the road. She was getting the coffemaker ready while her husband was waking up. All of a sudden the black man and a white man knocked on her door. The was standing part way in the sleeper and looked leaned back to the window and they ket hollering if she was alone and that they would like to pay her to take them down the road. She refused nd told them she was about to leave about that time her husband finds his bag with his .357 in it and shoots out of a small sleeper window. They call the cops and they came out and found blood later found one of the fellas in the hospital getting his tomach fixed. The police later called Amanda and Robert to tell them that the man that he'd shot had his prints match up with 4 similar robberies one where a female driver was shot. But now he is in jail and for the rest of his life will have a colostomy bag to do his business in now that his insides were almost blown out. If I ever drive over the road ill not stop anywhere thats not safe looking

Ooooo Kelly, are you sure yer not a redhead somewhere inside? Now you know that kind feller wasn't gonna harm you in any way. He maybe just wanted to tell ya you had a low tire or something. Yeah right, NOT! I was born at nite but it wasn't LAST nite. Tell yer story walkin. I went out to get in my car this afternoon and a black lady in a car with about 5 younguns pulls up. She was sitting at the top of the hill and watching when I came out. She screached up to me is more like it. So it kinda had me surprised as I live around a bunch or retirees. She holds out 3 pictures in her hand all spread out and says have you seen this man around here? Heck no, I've been in the house all day and I keep to myself. She says are you sure? Yeah, ok then and she took off. My neighbor was outside hosing off his car and said she did the same thing to him. This guy in the pics is her husband and he's outta his head and soeone told her they'd seen him hanging around the neighborhood with a white woman <<< sez my neighbor. I told him, well, I haven't seen anybody all day and I know what white woman he's NOT with. He just laughed and said yep. Now, there's only one road in and same out of this park so I had my son with me and as soon as we got in the car it hit me. What if this crazy woman thinks I AM the one he's been running around with? She could be setting at the top of the hill and shoot me as I come outta the park. Hmmm, if I call someone on my cell phone and she is up there she'll likely think I'm calling someone to warn him. Needless to say I waited for awhile before leaving. I didn't have the heart to tell her that honey, as dark as he is, he'd stick out like a sore thumb around here and he would have been spotted right away by my neighbors. Sorry for rambling but I know what you mean Kelly. We have lotsa bums around here too that approach people in parking lots. There was one who just stood by me car yesterday and I wouldn't look at him and told Dillon to not look at him either. We had grabbed a burger and was eating it in the car before we went in the store shopping. I always look around and had watched him "working" the whole parking lot. I'm glad you're OK Kelly : ) Sometimes this life can sure be scary when you're all alone.

My Mama is a redhead! :) I got lots of Irish blood in me. :) That was a scary tale of your own. As I was reading, I thought the sme thing before I got down to where you said what I was thinking, about her thinking you were with her man. Oh, I have so many stories surfacing in my head now. Some may not like my thoughts, but I bet you would, so I am gonna send them via email. :) I don't want to offend anyone with my take on things here in Georgia. :)

I didn't tell that to offend anyone. The woman could have been ANY color. I couldn't tell her where he was but I sure could tell her where he WASN'T. That was the point I was trying to make. : )

Thanks :) I can only do it when I give it a lot of thought. Have to word it right, to make it good reading, ya know? :) I swear I hate living in Clayton County, its just the scum of Georgia. About the only counties worse are actually IN Atlanta. So much crime, drugs, development. I HATE it. We have one more year, and I will have all bills and debts paid in full, and then we are outta here, and I want at least 10 acres!!!! ANd a brand new shiny shotgun! LOL!
