I want to thank you fellow for the information. lotts of good ideas.

i was watering cows from a watering hole fed by a spring. that dried up. this pasture is about 3/4 mile from my well or house. i have been pumping water from a pond about 1/4 mile through a state road pipe to a tank. but having to start, wait and stop gas pump 2 or 3 times a day and plan around freezing weather has been a strain on my time.
there is an electrical feed overhead through the pasture. yes i don't like the idea of paying a monthly connection fee whether i use elec. or not. i think i would try a windmill pump but they cost too much. Anyway just wanted to explain more to answer some of the questions below.
