I WENT TO Walmarts today.I bought a glass coffee pot and grabbed another free IP disk. There were two ladies working the door.Seaching an elderly lady in front of me.As I most often do, I just walked up to them and opened my bag and showed them my ticket. I knew of a guy in ---town who would circle by their dumpster and find real nice things inside.Stolen by their own folks I guess.

When you come to NH (according to Salmoneye, it's the same in VT) and go shopping at Wal-Mart (or any other store, for that matter), you will NOT be stopped and searched on the way out. There isn't anybody there whose job it is to do that.
When I go to any Wal-Mart in NH, there is always somebody there to greet you in the entryway and perhaps offer you a cart. Usually it's an older gentleman. Inside the store, there's another person greeting and offering assistance if needed. Again I say that there is NOBODY searching ANYBODY as they leave the building.
Must be a cultural thing.

They don't SEARCH the person here Les. They look at the receipt and peek in the bag ( not really a good look ) and then make a yellow stripe down your receipt. Like I said below, it's "busy work" for some of the Senior Citizens around here. It doesn't bother me but it had curbed some of the stealing around here. They are also there in case the buzzer goes off when you leave the store. Most times it's only because a cashier has forgotten to swipe the item across the plate that makes the sticker on the item inoperable. I've also talked to folks who can leave their cars running or the keys in them too but that's NOT the case around here in Orlando. Stealing is a very real problem here and I'm glad they catch folks at it. It keeps my prices down cuz I'm not having to pay for what someone else steals. : )

I understand. When I said "search", I meant the bag and what I said is still true.
I'm sure if some alarm went off, there would be some people who would spring into action. But there aren't people at the door......ah, I ain't even gonna bother to say it again. I'm just glad I live in a place where it ain't necessary to have that kinda bullshutt as an everyday part of life.

DD    Posted 05-29-2004 at 19:59:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
That's all I was saying too. I didn't mean for you to get mad about it. I'd love to be able to live somewhere like that. That place is not here though where I am now. That's all I meant Les : )

I'm not the least bit mad about anything. Just puzzled.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think I might go get me a job at Walmart. Not as a greeter, but as the grumpy old guy at the exit telling people not to let the dorr hit'em in the a$$ on the way out!
But I guess I have to get old first--I already know how to be grumpy!

Clod    Posted 05-29-2004 at 18:13:01       [Reply]  [No Email]
Well..Like if you have visitors to your home.Do you search everyone when they leave?

DD    Posted 05-29-2004 at 17:54:36       [Reply]  [No Email]
I do the same thing Clod. I figure if I don't have anything to hide then it doesn't bother me a bit for em to look in my bag : )

As much stealing as we have here I have yet to be searched at Walmart unless the little alarm thingie goes off as I'm leaving. If they ever start doing it indiscriminatly their going to have a pixxed off customer on their hands. I would have to make a scene.

When I worked there, they had an employee who was pushing merchandise out into the parking lot inside a shopping cart full of trash to be picked up later by freinds. They always find ways.

If they searched everyone,But the law made them pay five bucks to the not guilty I would think it was a great deal.I dont steal.I dont like to be treated as if I do.

At our local walmart store someone broke the lock on the rear door with a pry bar, from the
inside,they figured an employee.Over a 3 day
holiday they paid the local cops to set in a car
and watch the door at $60 per hour.

If they shortchange you or overcharge you at the cash register do they put the manager in jail?

DD    Posted 05-29-2004 at 18:11:22       [Reply]  [No Email]
PLEASE don't anyone take that to think I'm saying anyone here is stealing. I happen to live in a state where there are lots of retirees (Fl). Alot of times Wal-Mart will give them a job of being a greeter or "checking" folks bags on the way out the door for them to be able to supplement their income. I think it's ridiculous that when you've worked hard all your life and are eligible for retirement that it's never enough and you have to go and get a lil job like that to make ends meet. And even then you can only make so much for awhile. I think it's a good thing that Wal-Mart is doing by letting them work a few hours a day. Some of these Lil Sugars live alone and that's the only time they get to interact with people. By the Grace of God I'll be one of those Lil Sugars someday and I'd surely like to see a young smiling face instead of catchin a rash of crap from someone grouchy cuz I'm just doing my job ; )
