Single Mom wanting to raise kids in the country

Hi everyone,

My name is Kelly. 2 years ago my Christian husband walked away from God and his family. Leaving me, a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom, to raise my son just 4 and daughters 2 and 7 months on my own.

The children are getting bigger (6.5, 4.5 and 3) now. All legal issues are final. And I'm now able to move my family where I can.

Although I was raised in the suburbs of NJ, I'm a country bumpkin at heart. And so are the children. They see hills and trees, farms and tractors, and just smile from ear to ear. Traffic, crowds, and busy life just aren't any of us.

I'm hoping to get advice from you all. I'm looking for small town living. Towns where everyone knows each other. Simple life. I know it can be hard work, I'm willing to do whatever it takes. My children deserve the best life that they can live, and I want that for them.

It's extremely important to me that I be available for my children. When they are home from school, I need to be too. Depending on cut-off dates, it's quite possible that I would still have 2 at home/daycare.

I know that out in the country, my skills of retail management won't help much. I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist. I'm a certified florist. I write when I can. I also love to do desk top publishing. I'm open to any ideas that anyone has.

It's hard to tell people about the desire, and need I have to live in the country. They just don't seem to understand. And when I tell them I want to move the children and start a new life for us, somewhere in the country, they think I'm down right crazy.

Hope you don't.

Hi Kelly. First it sounds like your Christian husband isn't ... but that's beside the point. I admire your determination and your eagerness to bring your children up in a rural environment.

Let's see, even small towns, <5000 population, have retail establishments that need management skills. And all small towns have at one florist, sometimes many. Contact the Chamber of Commerce in towns you think you might like, explain your needs, and see what they have to say. You might be surprised what turns up. All the best luck to you.

Its not crazy at all. It will be a lot of work, but if you have the determination and the will, you can do it. Please keep us posted, we would all like to keep you in good spirits when you need it, and there are a bunch of friendly folks on here to do just that. Best Wishes and Good Luck! Bless you for wanting a better life for you and your children, and it will be. :)

You could do fine in the country. So if you have the desire then dont give up easily. What you say you want to do is very resonable.I have already got my map laid out but you will find the guy if you stay on your plans..Good luck and God bles you.
