No such thing as "10 bells"...For ship's time, you divide the day into 6 equal pieces of 4 hours each (called a 'watch')...The 'watches' are then cut into 30 minute segments...Each half hour is one 'bell'...Thus every 4 hour 'watch' is '8 bells'...The watches are all named so the sailors would know which '8 bells' they would be on duty...
