Has anyone here used Barley straw to control pond algae and if so how effective was it?

We've used it, works well. I use it in a mesh basket as part of a pre-filter for a pump. Without the straw, it takes several weeks to clear, with it the pond clears in about a week. Tried wheat straw, figuring there wouldn't be a difference, but it did not work as well with wheat.

Copper sulfate. yes I have herd it works. not sure about the cost or the dossage. Is prohibited in some areas whare it may enter a water way I think.
Hear is a site with several algaecides that may help you make a decission.

For a small pound such as yours 2700 gal it may be the way to go. Hope this helps.
