You know what, I think I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. At least once a week, I have had this terrible bloating and burping and sick feeling. It actually hasn't happened in over a month, but I think it reared its ugly head today. I looked it up on the internet, and it says women get it twice as often as men, and they don't have a clue what causes it. Could be stress, could be an allergy to a food, could be anything. All I know is I feel like I am going to float away. :(

There's some days when everything about me is irritable! ";^)

Same here - lots of increased fiber will usually keep it under control. Citrucel is what my specialist highly recommended and it works. I asked him about other brands (read: cheaper) of fiber, but he said to stick with the Citrucel. Plus, changing your diet permanently to increase the fiber. Popcorn won't hurt you. So far, no proven relationship between IBS and Crohns, thank goodness. Baking soda, pepcid, etc., won't help if it's true IBS.

Have you considered your symptoms could be lactose intolerance? And, gall bladder isn't out of the realm, either. But, that pain is usually more to the right upper quadrant of the abdomen.

Don't worry about a scope. They give you good drugs and you won't remember the procedure. The worst part of the whole thing is the preparation, but it's worth it to find some answers.

There other things that can cause IBS.
LET me guess?
How many of these other systems do you have?

Constipation /diarrhea
Digestive complaints (gas, bloating, cramps)
Irritability/nervousness
Irritable bowel syndrome
Persistent skin problems
Overall fatigue
Disturbed sleep
Anemia
Muscle cramps
Joint pain
Post nasal drip
Teeth grinding
Prostitutes
Sugar cravings & ravenous appetite
allergies

And do you have any of these disorders
Arthritous, multiple scleroses, appendicitis, both overweight and underwiebht conditions, cancer and epilepsy

I well get back to you tonight after work

Dont get allarmed Some calculate that 3 out of every 4 people have thise in some form. It's probibly Parasites. You can check with your doctor but by the time he figgers exactly witch one you have could be a lot of time and money.
Not that I generally recomend products, but. Nature's Secret has a product that seem to work great for me. Its called (Parastroy) Its reasonible priced and all natural. Check it out to see what you think.

Yep, I got it also.
My darling bride got a book on cooking an IBS diet and it really helps. I don't take any medication and I hardly ever have an attack. i just try to eat the way the book says.

BUT: I will not give up a couple of cups of coffee.

The experts say don't eat cold stuff as it makes the instestines snap closed and that is not a good thing.

Kelly, I have IBS, have had it for years. It is triggered by stress. In my case, twice I had to go via 911 to the hospital. I was in such bad pain that I didn't know what was happening. The pain is on the left side, but you might also have a gall bladder problem. IBS can be with constipation or the "trots" or both. Usually about 10-15 minuets after a meal one has to use the bathroom. Also, one has to "go" sometimes 10-15 times a day. I speak from experiance. You MUST see a doctor to get it checked. In my case, I also had some pre-cancer polops removed.

Maybe the popcorn I ate yesterday triggered it. Your not supposed toeat that kind of stuff if you have IBS. :(

Look up Crohn's disease. It's one step above irritable bowel and it flares and recedes.. there is no cure, there is medication which will control it.

Hey Y'all,    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:51:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
One symptom I am having I noticed is rare, but absolutely defines IBS, and that is the red bumps, and they are sensitive too. I got it right where they say I would, on my shins and my arms, also my stomach. A long time ago, I had an IBS episode that caused me to pass out, and then I woke up and had to go really bad, or else have an accident. I was broken out in a cold sweat. Thats the only time I passed out, but I had symptoms up until I got pregnant with Shelby. Maybe it is coming back. :(

see I told ya    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:54:12       [Reply]  [No Email]

Ya just forgot was all!

KellyGa    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:36:17       [Reply]  [No Email]
I have read about that. It scares me, and I guess if things don't subside, I am going to have to go on to the doctor. I just don't want a million tests done on me, I hate going to the doctor as it is.

bo    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:54:42       [Reply]  [No Email]
Incidently, you really don't need a million tests, just the colonoscopy and the side benefit, you get to get these nifty pictures of your colon that you can put on the fridge. Crohn's is pretty common and really uncomfortable but many live with it. It will flare and subside but you need to take the medication.

toolman    Posted 06-02-2004 at 21:49:53       [Reply]  [No Email]
you really don,t even need to start out with that, IBS covers a lot of ground crohns is probably the worst, colitis is another one they will check for, should go get checked now though , easier to treat the earlier they start.

bo    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:50:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
You're in for a treat. In order to diagnose Crohns, they'll have to do a colonoscopy. That's....oh, never mind, you don't need to know that. Leave it at this...don't worry about the procedure, you won't feel a thing...sleepy bye for an hour and you'll never know it. You will, on the other hand, be very familiar with the facility for a day before. That's the only way to really determine if it's Crohn's or the milder form. Either way, they do have medication for the difficulty.

I got TUMS, I got Maalox, I got Kaopectate, no Pepcid :(

This is gonna sound crazy, but when I get this ailment, I get my hands on MoJoes Hot wings, Extra hot, and eat them all. A few hours later, I am right as rain. I stay well for about a week, then its back to MoJoes. I don't know what the sauce does for me, but it sure does cure me. I know it doesn't made sense, but it works.

Hmmm...    Posted 06-02-2004 at 20:32:28       [Reply]  [No Email]
MIGHT work with the Maalox...just don't fergit the chaser ; )

that is always my standard answer when confronted with women and ailments, "sounds like morning sickness", gets me out of the conversation quick. On my job it comes in real handy.
