I mentioned this the other day and today's a new wrinkle. Yeasterday it was the court ouse trying to manipulate our property lines, today some fella claimed he was asked by the realtor to clean out the cabin. He told cousin Johnny no, not house cleaning but move the furniture and everything. Johnny was surprised so called us, we called the realtor who denied anything like that, and now the sheriff's watching the place. Since the mines closed down, poverty is rampant & lotsa opportunists hanging around. You hafta deal with the iron range, keep your jewels in one hand and your wallet in another. Shoot anything that moves & ain't yours. :)

Thats pretty scary. People get bold when they are desperate. Have to watch your back, like you say.

I remember reading bout a feller got tired of his cabin being cleaned out for him. In a fit of anger, he wired a blasting cap and stick of TNT into a vacuum cleaner. Sure enough two weeks later the vacuum and some other stuff was missing. He suddenly panicked about who might get hurt, etc and reported the whole thing to the police. Never heard anything about whether someone actually plugged the thing in. Do not try this at home or anywhere else. You'd probly end up in jail, or blow up a relative. (I'd think one of them whistling chasers that smokes so bad would be a good idea though.)

Yup that's the place. Up til the 70s they mined iron around there - then the ore played out to taconite (no, not taco night) for another 10 years but that didn't really take hold so the mines all moved to brazil. Most of the derelict ore boats in the great lakes have now been cut up for salvage. Tourists can visit the Iron Range Interpretive Center.
