And way to early at that! We've been having trouble with raccoons. Dirty SOB's killed all 12 Silkie chickens, at least another 12 ducks, and 3 rabbits.

So it's war....

We've been setting the live trap for a week now. Caught another one this morning. Before the "boss" ;-) left for work she checked the trap. "Go shoot it!" "NOW!"

$%$#^*^ ^%#$&&^% it's 5 am! (I'm not a morning person)

As I go up there, another one runs away. I say up there because we have all the critters up in the haybarn. Well the barn is old..and getting rotten in places....I found one of those places the hard way. walking along with the now empty live trap and loaded gun (a .22) I found a rotten board...The gun goes flying in 1 direction, the cage in another :-0 Like I said, heart stopping moment...gun flying while I'm falling....

arghhh! I don't need coffee this morning. I'm awake!

Now I wonder how big that bruise will be?

If you are getting a wanton slaughter of those chickens, and they aren't being eaten, you may have a weasel or mink around. Put out lots of fruit and veggies, those raccoons make good BBQ.

howdy joe....I have learned a way to keep them dang coons away from my green house may work for you....them plastic carpet runners ya can get at like $0.12 a foot at yer local home store..the ones that protect carpet...get ya some and flip them so that the spike side is up...place a lil peanut butter or half rotten fruit on it...they dont like to walk over it and will stop hanging around...also can also get ya a good ole dog at the local shelter...save a life...get an older one that has always lived outside[just ask the folks at the shelter] that way ya dont have the problems of a pup digging and all...plus anolder dog wont live as long so ya dont have the expense of 15 years of vet care and feed....good luck...dale anne...who is free of coons...just wish the dillers would go away

I can believe it. Some of those I sent to the beyond were the sgagiest looking varmits anyone should ever happen to see. We had even been warned racoons were carrying rabbies in our area. For protection of kids, dogs and cats, as well as property. They weren't welcome around here. traps ans lead. my motto.

So that's why all the folk in E. Tn. kept those Blue Tick and Redbone coon hounds. Cause our chickens used to roost in the trees. And, we'd a known if any were killed by critters. I guess those old dogs were earning their keep, huh. .......gfp
