A friend of mine is leaving on tuesday for Des Moines for the pork expo. I've known her for only a year and every time we meet I learn something new and interesting about her. She's a coffee grower[?] here in PR, and has oh I don't know how many more ventures here and there, all in the island. About two months ago she told me she has a vacant place where she wants to open a rustic restaurant to sell only pork dishes and that she wanted to talk to my husband and see what he thought about the idea. She called me today to invite us to come to her home tomorrow. Told me also that she would be going to the expo. I'm just thinking she might really be serious about this restaurant thing.

So..anybody going to the expo? who lives close to it? Just wanna know a bit about everybodys experience in those fairs. Gotta have some stories from you all to talk about with my friend tomorrow..LOL

I'm going out now, but I'll be right back.
Check you all later.

Check out and you can get all of the information on the Expo. The wife and I were involved with the pork producers back in the 70's and early 80's, we knew a lot of people on the top level but don't know many anymore. You need to know that Iowa produces more hogs than any other state in the United States. I have a neighbor gal that is 30 years old and owns four 2,000 head building for finish on contract and she does a fine job. A new project in northwest Iowa is taking off, it will be called Iowa Premium Pork and so far is composed of 104 pork prouducers that will lease a facility in Le Mars, Iowa to make package items. The hogs will be slaughtered in Sioux Center at SiouxPreme and then sent to Le Mars in three pieces for processing. It should be a great venture. We also have pork available in the area that is raised free of any antibiotics which there is a great demand for on the export level.
I hope your friend has a great trip to Des Moines. Tell her to make sure that she eats at "The Machine Shed" it is located by Living History Farm just north of the National and Iowa Pork Producers offices. She will be impressed and get a lot of good ideas for pork on the menu. The Machine Shed originated in eastern Iowa and now is a franchised operation. Looking on their menu you will find award winning selection that have been received either from the NPPC or the Iowa Pork Producers. We all hope you enjoy pork, the orther white meat! GWH

wow henrich, I'm going to print your post and give it to her tomorrow.

Like I said before, I've only known her for a year and we always meet at parties, tomorrow will be the first time that we visit one another.
I remember her telling on one of those parties that she had to move from one of her farms to an apartment and put somebody in charge of her hogs because she needed a break...I didn't ask how big was her hog production. We'll see...

Thanks a lot for your reply, henrich, and Take Care.

Don't know if he lives close to it, BUT you might holler at kev@ia. He's a pork producer up in that neck of the woods.

Thanks for the tip, she asked me if I knew somebody from IA that might be heading for the expo.

How are you Sarge? It's been a long time since we last spoke. Take Care.

I doubt if I will be going. I just looked here to see what was going on. I was thinking that most food you buy in the market meat counter have turkey slipped in it. If I wanted turkey I would ask for turkey. They hide that from the customer by the gimmick of fine print.
