As some of you know, I built our house out in the country, it is sitting on 12 acres. I mow about 4 acres where the house sits I have about 4 acres of woods and about 4 acres of tall grass and weeds. I have trained the dogs to only go in the mowed grass, so that means they don't go in the tall grass, thats only for the deer to play in. We have lots of deer and turkeys that hang around all the time. And they have also learned that the dogs will not go in the long grass and they are safe there.
Well we had our neices stay the weekend with us and they left Monday night. Monday day they asked if they can stay at the house while we went to work. We said no problem. When we got home, our oldest neice said to us that is was so neat that we let our English Lab play with the deer?!?!?! I asked her to repeat that... She said Buddy was out by the bonefire pit playing with a deer?!?! They were chasing each other around in small circles, never catching the other, just following. back and forth for about 10-15 minutes. then my neice said that she called Buddy to come in so he looked at the deer and started trotting back to the house and the deer started to go back and forth jumping over Buddy, and he came running up to the house. then the deer just ran off into the weeds.

What is wrong with my dog?

If I had to guess the deer had a fawn near by. And the deer may have been a little leary if a dog of size. and way trying to keep your dog occupied to lure him away from the fawn. And as your dog was concerned? He thought he found a new playmate. lol

Yeah, I see the yearlings playing like that all the time with each other. Probably the deer thought Buddy was a short, fat, deer and started to play with him. I have got to see it for myself. I believe her, those deer will stay their ground in the tall grass and we can get about 20 ft. from them before they even get skiddish.
