Mosquitoes anyone?

Today I got this in a note from a friend:

"Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a
couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your
porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to
it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate."

Well, mosquitoes are really bad here in SE Texas, and I wonder if anyone else has heard or tried this.

This is my second year with the Mosquito Magnet.

It works fantastic, in one week I have caught enough skeeters to fill a coffee cup. Mine is the LIBERTY model. Expensive but it works.
The theory behind it is to cut down the breeding population.

Might have to hang a few bags of water out in the chicken/goat house just to see if it works! I can hear hubby now hehehe

That is one of them HOAX emails that makes the rounds ever so often. I got it last summer, and tripped right out to get my giant economy sized bottle of Dawn, because we had mosquitoes dragging the dawgs all over the yeard! while I was huntin for the proper white plate for their offering, I happened to go to the Truth Or Fiction site, and there it was, Bigger'n Dallas! HOAX! Oh, well, not a total loss. Had good dish washing soap for a spell!!

Did you try Lemon Fresh Joy? I will not say it works but I do know that I tried it and dead mosiquitoes were lying on the plate and around it.

Naw, I did DAWN, as that was what was suggested to me. Figured that they was all alike! But hey! If you got results with JOY, I'm for trying that! Will pop off to the store this very day, and put some out! Hope it takes a shop vac to clear them out around the plate! Will make a report later... LOL

I still like my bug zapper fer skeeters :)

You can also get a gallon zip lock bag and fill it with water and hang up near patio etc. Not sure how it works but it will keep flys off you.

Ive heard the reflection of water isnt good on flys eyes or vibration from bag of water causes it...still dont know lol.

texas, there is a cabin over in arkansas on the buffalo river we like to go to, and last year
when we were over there they had the zip lock
bags of water hanging over the front door and
over the windows and it had me straining my little brain trying to figure that out and finally
ask the owners who are from the north woods of
minnesota and they swear by it.

Texas people keep telling that bug zappers do not work on mosquitoes. What I can not figure out is why I have to keep cleaning dead mosquitoes off of it.

Depends    Posted 06-11-2004 at 09:40:11       [Reply]  [No Email]
a lot on the "grid" spacing of the unit.Cheaper models tend to have wider electric grid so tiny bugs don't always bridge the gap enough to get fried,More expensive units with better design, insulation and finer grids will zap bout anything that comes between the wires. The old cheapy in my shop has always got about 1/2 cup of japanese beetles in and under it.
