From conception to the grave we are bound by borders/limits as to physical movement, the womb, the crib, the room, the house, the yard, the town etc....When one contemplates"Outer Space" is it humanly possible to comprehend limitless?
For instance you take off in your spaceship and if you manage not to hit something solid, you can go forever and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever and as far as we know never get to the"fence".I find this somewhat uncomprehendable. Thoughts?

Actually, its just a myth. The real universe is really no bigger than a Snickers bar. I have this on good authority but am bound by oath not to reveal that source.
Hmmm, Snickers bar. I wonder if that means its almost time to check on the better half to see if its time to go to the dairy bar? If its yes, life is good. If its no, then you guys will have to put up with me.
Catch me if you can!

Just peeking in to see how everyone's doing...

Not that I'm any kind of mental giant or anything, but from my own attempts at thinking on this particular subject I find that the whole idea of 'boundless space' seems weird and inconceivable to me, and I find it hard to grasp. I keep finding myself coming up against my own notion of "the edge of the Universe", which I guess according to popular theory doesn't exist. Although on a pessimistic note, we won't find out if there's an "edge" in my lifetime, since we don't have the tech or the lifespan to keep going till we (theoretically)run out of room anyway... sure would be cool to be able to monitor a probe as it went as far out as it could get, though....
Another thing about this is that I get a weird horrified feeling thinking about it... all that space... no nets... just going on and on forever... it's the opposite of claustrophobia, whatever that would be. Agoraphobia, is that right?

Onna other hand, why SHOULD there be an end? What would be on the other side of the "fence"?

And frankly, I find it kinda comforting to know that we won't find out in my lifetime. Gives us something to reach for.

In fact, I have several people in mind to send out on the search...

My wife tried to get me to go on an ocean cruise.
But, I said no. Reason being, I never want to be anyplace I can't drive away from. Now, since I hate driving, the only time I get in a car is to go somewhere. And, my idea of somewhere is not limitless space. But, it's good that we can imagine such things. Makes us appreciate the real world as we know it a little more.......gfp

A little late on a response, but, here is my "tilt" on the subject, to do with Einstines, [sp] theory on relativity and time warp.... probably don't make any sense...using this theory, traveling across time causes it to change, bend, or with this in mind... perhaps space being limitless, means that it folds back on itself...something like rolling up a newspaper...but, of course it would have to be a ball, so that if you start in one place , you will eventualy come to where you started, from the opposite add credibilty to the theory, everything in space revolves around something else....even the gaseous clouds from exploding stars are revolving in their initial path before the catastrophe.... have been enamored with these thoughts for a long time... hope there is something to it....have a gooder, R.E.L.
