I have tried for almost 2 days now to reply and/or post new threads...

No go...

I have low hopes for this...

Had the same problem most of the day...tried all kinds of stuff till I finally cleared the browsers cashe and rebooted...and now I'm able to get back on here...go figure....

So then...    Posted 06-20-2004 at 18:21:17       [Reply]  [No Email]
Here is what I was trying to post then...

""Many of the 8N's had a 9N engine in them with the dist still on the front of the motor. Rweal PITA ta change the points."

The points and timing on the front mount distributor are the single easiest I have ever seen on any engine...Two 1/2 inch hex bolts and the distributor is in your hand and on the bench for tuning...

I can change and gap points and set timing off and back on the tractor in about 4 minutes...Distributor only goes back on one way as the tang on the back is offset...

Points that I agree are a PITA are outboard motors...Lets pull the whole top of the engine to replace points...THAT is a PITA...

Salmoneye, And His Little Pink Dorf That Works More Than Any Green Or Orange Machine In Town..."

So...What the heck, eh?...

I even traced the path of the main page and there was no obvious bottleneck...I could see and read threads and replys, but could not post..."SERVER NOT FOUND"...

As Arty Johnson would say (as he rode his tricycle while wearing a mackinaw, galoshes, a lobstermans hat, and smoking a cigarette backwards...

"Veddy Ind-tavesting..."

Exactly, SE....was going to post that very same thought on the points, then let it slide..... also, another thought, on magnetos....always thought they were some magic article that the average person could not work on...not so... after the local "expert" was going to charge me in excess of five hundred dollars to repair the one on my 1965 Lincoln welder, I got mad and did it myself...and like I suspected, the coil is what was at fault, [internal on these].... he was going to put in all new parts...cap, rotor, points and condensor....that he was going to charge two hundred and seventy two dollars for, he put those parts in and I brougth the thing home and it was the same thing....took it back and he ordered the coil.....for another two hundred plus told him to take ALL the new parts out, give me my money back and my mag....stoped in at the neighbors, who had an old mag of the same type on the shelf with numerous others...took it home, removed the coil and put it in mine, [his mag wouldn't work because it was gear driven], put it on the welder, hit the starter....and it purred like a tomcat in a creamery......Went to the city to repair place that does mags, amoungst other things, bought a coil for one hundred and nine dollars!!!! still too much in my books....but a far cry from what the loco, [and that is not a spelling mistake], was going to charge!!! This mag can go on two you are either right or wrong...not a bad average..... have a gooder, R.E.L.

Front mount distributers! Try a V8 Ford ,,1948 model.. Then tell me you like changeing those dual points. ,, Top mount distributers were long overdue.
