Went to the livestock auction over at New Holland Yesterday. Got a pretty penny for some goats and lambs. Spent $140 and got four calves to raise, two brown beef calves and two underweight holstein bull calves. Made the mistake of going into the next ring, which was the horse auction. I bought an 17.5 hand Belgian Mare for $135.00. As near as I can figure, she's about 20 yrs old. She picks up her feet ok, which is unusual for an amish farm horse. She was already plenty fat. She's plenty calm. (Last evening, the Mrs. was mighty upset about the horse, but this morning seemed ok with it.) For a draft the mare seems to have some personality. Loves attention. We'll see if it'll take a saddle ok. tonight.
