I guess all the politicians know that the postal employees all vote. Job security even if you can't stick a finger in your own eye.

i have driven truck, worked in a factory, been a bartender and worked for the postal service for 20 yrs. it ain't perfect but i can say with absolute honesty the postal workers i worked with were/are the most productive workers i've ever worked with. the first day i took a load of mail out to be delivered i never realized that i could do so much in eight hours and quite frankly i almost quit.
did you happen to ask why your mail wasn't delivered???? i would like to know.

I'm confused. OK OK, its been a long day and I painted with oil paint so my brain is a little rattled.
What is this about?

those fools lost three months of my a very small town ,How can suck a fool get mixed up on a highway. One side of town is five miles of swamp so the other side is my mailbox on a main highway. You would think a human could figure out if he had three months of mail that it could go in the box that equals the same name and number on the same highway if one side is a swamp.

The worst part about inefficiency is that its getting worse. I sent some saw blades to be sharpened and they went back to the lumberyard where I sent them off. They sat on a shelf and were covered with dust when I asked if they would be back soon.
Oh, they have been here for a long time, do you want them? How in the world do you answer a question like that without tearing off somebody's head. I just got my blood pressure under control and said that I would like to take them with me now.
They are stupid and I stay polite. Who is worse?

the first sign of a small mind is name calling and second is discrimination.

buck    Posted 07-26-2004 at 18:44:20       [Reply]  [No Email]

It is always in good taste to call someone by their name. Always good to remember that most eveything has at least 2 meanings.

Clod    Posted 07-26-2004 at 17:39:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
Oh..So there you are. You found your way here OK? Discrimination huh?
WOW!! You can dream a big dream..Job security is another word for discrimination . You can fiddle around all day and still have a gaurantee of income.

Whoa there Clod your'e swingin a mighty wide brush, and I gotta call you on it. I've worked for the post office for 12 years and I put in a full honest day every day and I don't hang my head when I cash my check. I will readily admit it ain't like workin in a foundry or construction like I've done but it is a dang sight harder than drivin truck, which I've also done. And yes I took the job for the security and the pension but there ain't no sin in that either. So what is your real problem Clod?

ennis    Posted 07-26-2004 at 18:40:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
Our small town post offices do a great job. Come ta think about it Humble Post office did a great job also. Delivered a letter to my wife at our shop that was addressed : MOM
2223 FM 1960 West

No Suite number no nutin but it was delivered anyway. BTW: My wife's daughter didn't remember her Mom's married name hence the Mom address

During my fishing days I recieved mail simply addressed, "Big Foot, So.Haven,Mi." The local post office took care of a 10,000 person populated comunity.

It's kinda comical, but the new owner at the motel HATES to pay bills and she's a dominant type but knows i'm ornery enough to start proceedings if anything starts looking late. So we wait a few days past the due date, stop by and she sez they got tired of waiting & mailed it yesterday.

So i say great, that's simpler for me too so just mail them from now on. Except she puts JUST my name on the thing and no postage. I stop by to check my PO box, the mgr hands me the envelope, i hand him 37 cents and we both shake our heads, swap jokes and have a good chuckle. I like small towns. :)

Pitch    Posted 07-26-2004 at 18:22:55       [Reply]  [No Email]
More to it than your sayin, things don't work that way. If your address on the mail was correct you should have gotten it. If the address was incorrect it was returned to the sender as undeliverable as addressed. If you had'nt gotten mail for three monsth why on earth did yu check into it sooner?

Clod    Posted 07-26-2004 at 18:36:41       [Reply]  [No Email]
I wonder why folks dont vote for a better system? There is United Parcel Service. Then there are other private corporations. I noticed in DC that the boys played a game of basketball while the customers waited for the mail to be boxed up . My boss dont pay me to play ball on duty..He has to make a profit. I doubt that UPS guys play ball on duty..That is the sad thing about government jobs.. I noticed in DC that our tax paid employees ran the streets for a few hours during duty time. Once the idea hits folks that the taxpayers foot the bills they get pretty useless.

DigitalMat    Posted 07-27-2004 at 09:12:43       [Reply]  [No Email]
Turning over the Postal work to private industry would mean discontinuing any part that doesn't make a profit. Rural Free Delivery would be toast. UPS hits maybe 2 or 3 deliveries per hundred in the country as opposed to 100% by the Postal Service. UPS just can't handle it. The country would have to be split into different zones owned by different companies since no one is big enough to run it all. It would cost more to mail the farther away you mailed something. The government also protects what postal inspectors call "The sanctity of the seal". Employees are watched and monitored to make sure no one is stealing from the mail. I think in private industry, where profit is king, that certain things would be deemed "not necessary" and if it loses money, out it goes. If you think service it bad now, just you wait!

Where you been Clod Post Office don't get one penny of your tax dollar. Totally self supporting organization. You never did give the rest of your story

Ron/PA    Posted 07-27-2004 at 06:49:02       [Reply]  [No Email]
Not exactly true pitch, although they don't recieve any money from the general budget as a budget item, the budget will fill in any shortfalls to keep the bills paid. Seems like most years the PO is running in the red.
As for their postage rates, congress approves that, so in essence it is a form of taxation, since you cannot compete with the USPS on first class home delivery.

Clod    Posted 07-26-2004 at 19:05:14       [Reply]  [No Email]
Bill Gates did not get big wad of money to open up his totally self supporting operation..But Janet Reno tried to hang him for having a monopoly. The USPO was bought and pid for by taxpayers. By the way..Why is it that the big postal units in DC use mostly all Volvo trucks?? What is wrong with buying US made trucks? Is it because Volvo is from a socialist country? There could be Americans outside the postal system who may need a job..Suck as those who work for the US manufacture of trucks.

willie j    Posted 07-26-2004 at 19:48:51       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Volvo trucks are built in western Virginia, the remains of GMC, &Autocar, although the parent company is in Sweden. Drove them for the last 9 years of my driving years. Lots better equipment than Frateshaker & Peterbuilt.

Pitch    Posted 07-26-2004 at 19:22:29       [Reply]  [No Email]
I really don't know how to discuss this with you. You are on a rant and you are ain't gonna see anything any way but what you want to. The post Office department closed down in the '70's The USPS is a self supporting quasi government corporation that was formed after that (on the same order as Conrail and Amtrak) Usps makes annual payments to congress just like a mortgage to pay for any physical plant they took over. USPS also makes payments in lieu of taxes to the government. As to the Volvo trucks? I don't know lowest bidder probably. If they were using Pete's or Western Star you would be griping about spending to much on a luxury truck. All of our trucks (MId Level PO) are 2 ton vans made buy grumman on GM Chassis and the LLV deleivery vehicle are also grummam GM slowly being phased into Grumman Ford.

So what and why happened to your mail? What did they tellyou when you talked to them. Mail does not just not get delivered for 3 mos. with out something being wrong.
