I found this website through a search for a necktie quilt which took me to the picture you have posted. My grandmother has a box of ties that belonged to my grandfather who passed away 5 years ago. She would like to make a quilt from them and fell in love with the pattern you posted. Would you be willing to sell the pattern? Or give us directions on how you did this? We would sincerely appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!!!

Well sure stephanie - glad to help. Might need my sister Edie's advice on the details (mom's gone now) but i'm sure she would be glad to help. As i recall, they first stripped-out all the ties and ironed them out flat. Then they narrow-rehemmed each one. (They saved the tie labels and scattered them in the field) Then they just used a solid sheet of backing and arranged ties as they went, switching them around until they liked the pattern. They did the center sunburst pattern first, (with the wide consistent ones) then fanned the leftovers in the corners. Once arranged, they pinned them in place and started the machine sewing along the new hems. Then finally they hand-stitched the labels and started the filling and backing. Beyond that i'm lost but it gives you the idea. :)
The quilt is toward the bottom of the linked quilt page - just click it.

Thank you so much for the response. We found the picture on Sunday and when I saw it was posted in 2002 I wasn't very hopeful that I would be able to "find" you. I have passed the directions on to my grandma and hope our quilt will be as beautiful as the one your mom and sister made. Thanks again for the help. Stephanie
