Want to get a few of those blue 50 gal. food grade barrels. I see them all over the place, but knowone seems to be able to direct me to a source. Sure would like to get my hands on 4-5 of them.

If you live in the area of any large commercial bakeries, check them bread bakeries get molasis, rasins, vinegar and the like in them, they also have metal drums with removable lids for lard barrels. All are food grade.
Hope this helps
Ron

the ones I use are dark green with a two piece lid that are used as pickle barrels.

Look for a pickle plant. Find out how to get the used ones for little to nothing.

Not sure how far you are from Frederick MD, but Mcutcheon's apple products sells used ones for $10. Haven't had anything but apple juice in 'em.

The barrels that cleaning chemicals come in would work for you. You would need to just wash them out good. The chemicals food plants use for cleaning are basically concentrated versions of stuff you use at home to clean dishes and countertops with basically. I know there are several food plants around that state.

in the past I have bough new barrels from a container outfit down on Commerce Road in Richmond. At the time I was looking for epoxy coated open head medal drums but they may carry the blue plastic. Sorry don't have the number or nameof outfit.

Mike , Thanks for the ideas-    Posted 04-03-2002 at 11:33:06       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Appreciate the advice. Always nice to have a place to seek it. Mike
