Tom where have you heard this before?

Reason I ask is because I want to set up a couple of travel trailers to house guests from time to time...........

I have only one 23 footer that sleeps 6 right now. Has a set of bunks for average sized people etc. don't think I want to let out a place in my house but I would like to set up one more camping site. If I had two of em, I could either rent seasonally or year round to a couple or single person. We have a great seasonal crowd here by the lake and all.......

Not that far from the city either.

I'd like to do something to catch some extri cash so I don't have to go to the city anymore. I think renting rooms would be risky. And I think renting a camper all set up would be nice way to meet people and get some extra help as well. Farm word that is. Maybe so they can reap the benefits of what comes from the garden.

I wonder how much it would cost to have a couple of lines run into the septic tank? Who would I ask?

I'd sure like to start something like this. I would go find me another used camper trailer today if it's possible.

know what I'd like to see and I think it would work? Kindof a dude ranch for weekenders.
You'd need a big porch or shelter to get acquainted, plenty kitchen for eating and house them anywhere as long as they can pet calves. Big problems are health rules and hot water.
Campers, bunkhouse or polebarn would work - insurance probly $1200/year - septics are fine unless you've close to a lake or river, then they have minimum setbacks & all kinds of requirements. Your county no doubt has a big wad of rules.

Never mind the septics Carp, read up on The Specalist by Chas. Sales, what you need for them city folk is priveys, lots of them, then they could enjoy a real ranch the way it was, Sears catalogue, box of corn cobbs and all.;<)

That sounds real fun. I know I couldn't do this because I don't have enough land. But the big porch sounds so nice.

The weekend ranch would go well around here. But the liability is scary.

My son jumped off Magic (the horse) last week because he got scared. He didn't get hurt but if he did he wouldn't sue me.

I admire anyone who can run a place like that.

Now, I can cook up some good vittles. Vittles so good, they'll make your tongue slap yer forehead.

;0)

Don't remember, DJ...have heard about it and read about it periodically over the past couple of years. Maybe one of the small farm magazines we get (Small Farm Journal, Countryside, American Small Farm...probably others I've forgotten). I think it was also mentioned at an Ag Extension workshop we attended a couple of years ago.

I think it would be very risky for a couple of reasons: playing landlord is always a pain (repairs, sob stories, people skip out etc etc); liability (farms are dangerous places, especially if you don't know what you're doing). Somebody trip over a horse pile and sue you just to get your farm. I am sure there are ways to limit the liability, but that in itself would cost.

It's one of those things that sounds good, and if you're so inclined to try it I'm sure there's a market, but I would never want to do it.
