review your utility bills for hidden taxes the sorry bustards have the utilites collect so they can't be accused of raising your taxes . all to help you ? when you combine politicians and beaurocrats you are sure to come out on the short end of the stick .

Would it surprise you to know that gas (before 9/11) REALLY cost the u.s. driver about $7/gallon? That counts supporting all the arab royalty, securing the facilities (troops) and kickbacks to everything from foreign producers to distribution outfits. Enjoy the $2/gallon tip you dump on top of that. :)

And telephone. And cell phone. And cable TV. Power. Gas. Electricity. Trash.

You are correct, Bill. I work for a utility (electric co-op). You'd be amazed at what your money is going to help pay for. It's not necessarily for the cost of doing business. One chunk of it goes to help people who can't pay their bills. In another era, that would have been called "welfare". Any way you slice it, it's wealth redistribution since you are not actually paying for goods or services rendered to you but to someone else. As you say, it's a sneaky way to get in under the radar of most people who don't really care.
Of course the lawyers get the lion's share of it, no doubt.

Sorta chafes ones cheeks when some politician talks of saving on utility bills and when you check the bill 40% is some local, state, fed add on that no one can tell you what it's for.
